Balancing Fire + Water: Pisces Season Medicine
Pisces represents the Waters, the mystery, oneness with Source and all that is, and the dreamworld. Pisces is deeply sensitive, often feeling the feelings/thoughts of others. This makes them powerful healers but if they are not careful to with their Waters, they can take on the emotions of the collective creating serious inner turmoil.
Currently we’re in Pisces Season so we all have greater access to this archetype, whether we are born with our Sun in Pisces or not. This energy is somewhere in our birth chart and by consciously connecting to it, we honor our greater wholeness. And with Saturn now in Pisces for the next 3 years, we are all being called and supported to materialize our dreams into reality.
In the body, Pisces is the “inner ocean,” associated with the lymphatic and immune systems. These systems distinguish self from non-self/pathogen and filter toxins from the blood so our waters can flow clean and pure.
When we are boundaryless and don’t properly filter what we are exposing ourselves to, the inner waters swell and stagnate, and our immune system can become confused or weakened. This creates a prime environment for pathogen overgrowth. Pathogens like parasites, candida, and SIBO are entities or “parts” that hold old and misaligned energies within us, but when balanced and integrated, can become teachers + allies.
The way to establish boundaries is through the gut. This is our Core—the center of our willpower, confidence, and sense of Self. There are so many beautiful herbs for this but the more specific we can be, the deeper the plants can health us not just physically, but also mentally-emotionally, and spiritually.
Mugwort is the Mother of magical herbs. She has this gift of dissolving the veil between the conscious and unconscious, giving us insights through meditation or the dreamworld. Dreams are the messengers of our soul, revealing what’s buried deep in the subconscious, under all the layers of our conditioning that we absorb throughout our life. They show us what we’re holding onto that is taking us off course and it’s our work to correct it. This is ultimately how we stay true to who we are at our Core and heal ourselves.
Chinese Medicine teaches that anything we are holding onto, outdated beliefs, ancestral patterns, traumas, were considered to be “Ghosts.” The Chinese word for ghosts is “Gui” which also translates as “excess phlegm.” Phlegm causes the blood to become thick and congealed, which blocks the heart, distracts the mind, scatters the spirit and weakens the will, leading to self-destructive behavior like addictions which are the shadow of Pisces.
Mugwort's main action is breaking up stagnation and promoting the flow of qi, making it powerful for clearing these ghosts--the energies that are not ours both physically and energetically--and in this clearing brings out our deepest desires through the dream world.
It does this through building the Fire Element in the womb and the Core, moving the flow of bile in the liver so that we can digest + process our food as well as our emotions + experiences and then release the waste or what doesn’t serve. By getting things moving, it shifts our inner ecology so that bacteria and parasites can no longer thrive—this includes energetic parasites as well, anything draining our energy.
Mugwort is also directly antibacterial and antiparasitic. You can drink or take baths with mugwort tea, take the tincture or flower essence, work with the smoke of the dried herb, or simply place some of the plant under your pillow. But it’s recommended to either consult an herbalist or start very slowly when working with a new herb. Because of its ability to move our waters, pregnant women should not work with Mugwort.
If you feel called to go deeper into this work of gut healing and parasite cleansing, I will be guiding a 3 month group gut healing journey this Spring called Connected to the Core of You. All the details can be found by clicking the button below.
